We streamed live from our network of fixed IP-controlled cameras from bookstores, music venues, editorial offices and public forums. We streamed conferences from the Global Philanthropy Forum and the World Affairs Conference to GigaOm’s Structure and SOCAP2011.

After participating in the eG8 Forum in Paris, we assembled a team of media and technology veterans with a collective two hundred years of experience to develop a next generation live media experience. Later this month, we will announce our new service from the MIDEM Conference in Cannes, France.

Stay tuned.

Government That Gets Things Done
When it comes to social innovation, most government agencies are mostly just talk. And then there’s OPIC, the agency that gets things done. Elizabeth Littlefield tells what she’s learned so far and what she sees ahead for Impact Investing.

What Does It Take to Reach Scale?
To create the massive social change that the world needs, it takes a mix of public, philanthropic and investment funding and partnership. Brian Trelstad of the Acumen Fund has a road map to get there that makes sense.

The second day of beNOW.tv’s live coverage of SOCAP 11 continues from Fort Mason in San Francisco with the morning plenary. Here’s a description.

From Crisis to Building Something New Together
In the era of anti-institutions ‒ as cities, states, and countries default on economic and social obligations, and citizen movements have the power to topple governments but little ability to rebuild them ‒ what will it take to solve the world’s most intractable problems? Deborah Alvarez-Rodriguez, who leads one of the country’s largest social enterprises, says the answer is in strategic co-opetition that straddles sectors and power.

Deborah Alvarez-Rodriguez, Sean Greene, Lisa Kleissner, Suzanne DiBianca

Making Your Life Count
Four people with a history of making a big difference with their careers talk about their new directions and decisions, and how personal choices intersect with the needs of the world.

Penelope Douglas, Michael Kieschnick, Jeffrey Hollender, Gil Friend

For complete details of the day’s events–and all conference session news and details–go here.

They are increasing their number of venues and shows and constantly improving and expanding their user experience and feature set. It’s a good extension of their overall impressive move into original content in the entertainment arena, from the usual movie red carpet screenings to a range of live shows. Even the President at Facebook.

I met Livestream CEO Max Haot through Twitter and we had a series of meetings. I introduced him to the Axis camera solution January of last year and Livestream integrated it into their platform so that we were able to start installing cameras and start testing content ideas and production workflows. Since the fall, we have been livestreaming shows from The New Republic magazine’s offices in Washington, Yoshi’s Oakland jazz club, the Commonwealth Club, the World Affairs Council, Booksmith, Books Inc, New America Media, Politics and Prose bookstore, among other places.

We are ratcheting down our livestream volume as we work with partners and investors on business plans and technology solutions. YouTube is now livestreaming concerts as well. Check out this article on the growing interest in live concert rights:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/06/03/us-vevo-youtube-idUSTRE7527CR20110603

Oh, and check out this blog post on the continuing disruption of traditional media business models.

This week, we celebrate nine months remote livestreaming in partnership with Livestream. Live productions are traditionally a large-scale process with cameras, switchers, computer equipment, and trained staff on-site to control all of it. The team at beNOW.tv knew that there had to be a more efficient way of broadcasting live events without all of the “classic” costs and techniques. After months of research, we came across remote controlled high quality IP cameras, manufactured by Axis. These cameras allow us to broadcast a live high quality feed over the web with the ability to pan/tilt/zoom the focus on specific subjects at the event.

This allows beNOW.tv to broadcast multiple events live over the Internet simultaneously from a remote location. It also reduces the need to have a powerful computer to encode the video like most broadcasts require because the h.264 encoding is done on the camera so you can control the camera from as simple of a device as a cell phone.

The most exciting part of these cameras is that there is still so much to be improved and tweaked because the idea of using them to stream is such a new concept. beNOW.tv is helping blaze a new path in streaming technology and hopes to continue to do so for a long time.
